biographie

“27 have transcended almost all convenient musical reference and now comfortably occupy a melodic stratosphere of their own”. Alternative Press, September 2004

Boston, Massachusetts based trio 27 fuses sample loops, live instruments and sultry vocals to create emotive pop songs with a broad range of dynamics and textures. The music moves easily from gently sparse to lushly full, revolving around the alluring and captivating vocals. Some tracks ignite a tripped-out vibe with electronic loops and infectious rhythms, while other songs explore a more visceral rock approach with sweet melodic hooks. 27 has been compared to PJ Harvey, Portishead, Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Fleetwood Mac, and Neil Young. Their fan base crosses over many genres and continents, with recordings and live performances winning over alternative, indie, metal, emo, punk and pop audiences alike.

Alternative Press September 2004 (J. Bennett)

“[Let The Light In] is a pop record, and a pretty fucking sweet one at that.” RATING: 5 out of 5 Also featured in AP’s “Low Profile” pages of bands to “Keep Your Eye On”, August 2004: “’Let The Light In’ finds [27] at a captivating creative peak”.

Rock Sound August 2004 (Sean)
“The whole gig was amazing. Having 27 made it a perfect night. They blow most of the American bands away, everything about them is superior”. (review of live show at the Underworld, London, UK)

Kevin Smith’s Movie Poop Shoot May 2004 (David Thomas)
“Let The Light In” selected as the zine’s Indie Pick of the Week, “engaging, smoky, feminine music”.

CMJ June 2004 (Kory Grow)
“’Let The Light In’ covers several sub-genres, from trip hop to hardcore lite, and throughout, the band maintains the signature emotional swagger”, “their many faces help them appeal to the indie and metal crowd alike”.

Kerrang! March 2003 (by James Sherry)
"[27] wow the already heaving audience with a delicate set of beautiful post-rock melodies and moods. Singer and guitarist Maria Christopher is an enchanting presence on stage, coming across like a more willfully obscure Polly Harvey as she croons and subtly strums her guitar to drummer Neil Coulon and guitarist Ayal Naor's hypnotic grooves, complex melodies and soaring harmonies. Simply exquisite."
