“Mistaken” is the sixth single from the album “Pathways” (Noise Appeal Records 2025) by The Burning Flags. The song explores shifting perspectives and changing approaches to different concepts of life and ideals throughout the various stages of a person’s life. Many things that once seemed right may later appear questionable or even wrong. Actions that were once viewed critically suddenly become part of one’s present-day behavior. Past decisions may begin to be questioned. This inner conflict and constant ambivalence are reflected in “Mistaken” not only lyrically, but also musically through the stark contrast between verse and chorus. With this track, The Burning Flags prove that they are far more than just a punk band built on shouting vocals and loud guitars, showing that they are equally unafraid to embrace quieter tones and experiment with different sounds.

For the accompanying music video, the band drew inspiration from cult classics such as “Nosferatu” and “Dracula”, creating a short film in the style of a vintage horror classic. The band’s creativity does not end with their music, but also continues through its visual representation. As with the films that inspired it, the production deliberately relied on old filmmaking techniques, using practical builds instead of animation. The symbolism within the film, centered around a tense yet emotionally charged exchange between the main characters, can effortlessly be interpreted as a metaphor for the older and younger self within the story of the song.
